Friday night sights

Just as sure as the rising sun, Friday nights in the Fall mean high school football in America. If you have ever worked for a newspaper as a photographer, you have been to more than your fair share of high school gridiron games. You also know how little light there is to work with! I have become accustomed to working evenings hours and try to find the simple moments in these neighborhood events.

My dominant reaction is always about how serious people seem to take these games. Adults even. Behind all of the misplaced emotion and bravado, though, there are plenty of true moments. I’m not a big fan of first pumping athletes, but when the Nazareth High School team raised their helmets in jubilation to their fans following a blowout win against Riverside-Brookfield High School Friday night, I thought it was pretty genuine.
