Not so mighty Macbeth
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts
I sat in on a rehearsal of Macbeth the other day as Dominican University drama students prepare for a mid November show. Shakespeare is somewhat lost on me. Maybe because I have a hard time staying awake and alert when subjected to it. Dominican’s version has a modern twist to it with a fast-paced, current-day, city spin on the struggle for power and the perils of greed. You know, guns, gangs, drugs, etc. Makes old William’s writing a little more sexy for the average dimwit like myself.
Here actors rehearse a rather physical fight scene as other cast and crew members sit off stage to watch. The fight scenes were fast and actually pretty good. I’m sure making a kick to the face seem realistic is not as easy as these guys made it look.
