More Cabrini-Green

Here’s a couple more from my most recent trip to Cabrini-Green. That’s Clifford Smiley, who I talked about in the previous post. I figured I should load at least one photo of him.

In case you’re unaware, shoes tied together and draped over electrical wires is something of an urban tradition. It is not rare at all to see this at Cabrini-Green. It’s essentially guesswork to determine what the significance is. Sometimes the shoes of a person killed in that location are left hanging on overhead wires to memorialize the victim. Other times the shoes are tossed up there by gang members who killed the person wearing them. Some people think drug dealers and gang members mark their territory with them, but I doubt that’s true.
