Stuck in the PONY leagues
When I got an assignment to shoot a PONY league game at Ridgeland Common Park earlier this week, I didn’t have a clue what that meant. Could have been horse racing for all I knew. Turns out it’s youth baseball. I asked one of the players what PONY stood for, and to my surprise he knew exactly. Protecting Our Nation’s Youth. So there you go.
Game time was at 8 p.m., but it didn’t actually get underway until closer to 9 p.m. leaving little light to work with. Shooting with my longer lenses produced grainy results so I opted for my wider lens and spent much of my time in or around the Oak Park team’s dugout.
I have probably mentioned this before, but in most cases the best photos that come from shooting a sporting event occur around the edges of the actual game.
