Pursuit of the suit

The Illinois Education Foundation hosted an event called Suited for Success at The Standard Club in Chicago Saturday. Clothing company Brooks Brothers donated suits and personnel to help fit dozens of low-income men and women participating in the program. To be eligible they had to be highly motivated and enrolled in community college.

On hand to provide further motivation was Christopher Gardner, whose life and book The Pursuit of Happyness was the inspiration of the blockbuster movie with the same title starring Will Smith. Gardner is the man pictured in the second and fourth photographs. He posed for a portrait for me prior to speaking to the group at the event. Later, he signed copies of his book.

George Lowery of Woodlawn is fitted for a suit by Brooks Brothers tailor Alex Jasiak in the first photograph. Volunteers Erinn Connelly and her daughter Grace sort ties in the last photograph.
